| The Program Won't Launch |
| CRASHES DURING LAUNCH may occur if the program or portions of its resources have been moved from it's original location. CrimeVision uses Microsoft's .NET technology and requires those resources to be in place. If a prior version of .NET has been installed, you may need to update it. Click on the VCREDIST_X86 file and run it to refresh the .NET resources. |
| I have an AVI file, but CrimeVision's Video Functions won't work. Now what? |
| The file is likely not a standard AVI. Convert the video file in VirtualDub using one of the recommended compression codecs (like Huffyuv). |
| I have just set up my CrimeVision system, and am trying to start a New Case to begin work. Every time I select New Case, the program crashes. I just got a bad copy of software, right? |
| Open the program and go directly to SETUP under the LINKED APPS menu. Look at the Program Directory and determine where CrimeVision is being told to save its Case Files. Examine the Properties of this location (either by selecting BROWSE and right clicking the folder for its properties, or browsing outside the application to examine the folder's properties). Remember that this Project Directory location cannot be a locked folder. You must be able to write to this folder for CrimeVision to save any work, including creating new cases. |
| More than one person (profile) uses this computer. Can everyone access CrimeVision? |
|
First install the software using the Administrator's profile. During CrimeVision's installation wizard, select "Everyone" when it asks who you would like to allow to us the software.
Depending upon the configuration of the profiles on the computer, you may have to install CrimeVision under each user's profile in addition to the Administrator's profile. |
| CrimeVision won't open a DVR video file. Why? |
|
CrimeVision is designed to work with Windows-native AVI files. Most DVRs record in alternate file formats.
First, try opening the file in VirtualDub and converting it to an AVI file. If VirtualDub cannot recognize the file, it is likely a proprietary format that only applications from the DVR manufacturer will recognize. If that is the case, either contact the manufacturer for assistance, or capture the video from the TV output of the DVR. |
| My Zoom function is broken. Why can't I Zoom an image in the Workspace? |
| Zoom is disabled when Fit to Window is active. Go to FIT TO WINDOW in the VIEW menu and uncheck the selection. Now use the "+" and "-" keys to zoom in the Workspace. |
| I want to DeMux a multiplexed file, but I have no idea how many camera streams there are. I can't perform DeMux if I don't know that, right? |
| You do not have to know the exact number of camera streams there are in a multiplexed file. Simply view the multiplexed file in the Video Player first and attempt to estimate the number of cameras. Then, select a number higher then your best estimate in the DeMux dialog. Even if you do not select a number high enough, you can delete the Demux split files from the Video File List and try Demux again with a higher number. |
| We have CrimeVision installed on my computer as well as Det. Joe's computer, but he was promoted and won't be using CrimeVision anymore. Meanwhile Det. Bob is taking his place and needs CrimeVision on his computer. Do we have to buy another copy for Det. Bob? |
